Born in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Michel Duval joined the ESSOR Insurance team in 1980 and became a chartered insurance broker in 1983.
Since 1985, Mr. Duval has been President of ESSOR Insurance, which oversees four major areas: property and casualty insurance for individuals, groups and businesses and financial services, provided via the ESSOR Wealth Management subsidiary. He currently oversees the strategic and corporate approaches of the company’s 21 offices with the aim of aligning them with his vision and maintaining the company’s position as a leader in the brokerage industry.
Under his leadership, ESSOR Insurance has experienced exponential growth. He has managed more than 75 acquisitions since 1989, all of them successfully integrated over the years. Still very active throughout Quebec, the company operates in the regions of Chaudière-Appalaches (including Thetford Mines and Saint-Georges de Beauce), Quebec City, Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec, Montérégie, Estrie and Greater Montreal.
Throughout his career, Mr. Duval has been active with numerous fundraising organizations including Centraide, the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Pierre Lavoie Challenge, to name but a few. Previously he served as chairman of the Amiante Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Thetford Mines.
Mr. Duval is dedicated to the development of businesses and social activities in his region. He is a sponsor of the Thetford Assurancia hockey team, the Mont Adstock competitive downhill ski club and other sporting initiatives in various regions, and has provided many sponsorships to encourage local talent and its renewal.
